NJ Audubon Society
New Jersey Audubon and the Essex County Environmental Center have been implementing a six-week nature exploration camp together for the past five years. Generous funding from the Brach Family Fund has made this partnership possible and provided an opportunity for hundreds of urban youth to attend sessions of the summer camp.
Since the summer of 2008 Harmony Day Care Center has sent children entering Pre-Kindergarten (age 4) and Kindergarten (age 5) to the summer camp. I am proud to say that Harmony will be sending campers, again, this summer. In total, 45 children from Harmony Day Care Center have attended camp so far and we anticipate another 30 campers this summer .
The Harmony Staff are very active in working with New Jersey Audubon to assess the camp last year. Staff members are also active in obtaining the NJ Audubon Camp Surveys from parents and commented that the campers had “an increased curiosity about the wildlife that the children see around the school as well as increased nature vocabulary.”

Irvington Family Development Center
Throughout the years, it has been quite evident that in order to make a change and be a difference in a community you will need the help of others as well. Throughout the years, H.E.L.P has worked together with the Irvington Family Development Center to bring services to their facility. With their help we have been able to offer and utilize various services to our children and parents. Some of their services include a focus on Prenatal and Health Information, Literacy, Parenting Education, Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention, Fatherhood, Early Childhood Mental Health, and Economic Self-Sufficiency.
Greater Newark Cares
H.E.L.P is dedicated and committed to connecting mentors with Irvington’s local youth and surrounding areas. Having a positive role model and someone to talk to is an important piece in today’s urban community. With this partnership H.E.L.P will be able to implement a Big Brother and Big Sister program. Greater Newark CARES is dedicated to recruiting and connecting mentors with local youth-serving organizations to help guide struggling children to academic and social success.a mentor recruitment organization that recruits caring, able, stable adults; connects with them about becoming mentors; and directs them to already existing education, mentoring, and youth-support organizations within the Greater Newark community.
Irvington JROTC
With the continuous efforts of outreach in the community, H.E.L.P has been able to team up with the Irvington JROTC. Irvington JROTC’s sole mission is to motivate young people to be better citizens. The Irvington JROTC program uses military skills to teach self-discipline, confidence, and pride in a job well done. Through the program, we challenge and offer opportunities to our youth to sharpen their communication skills, promote citizenship through participation in community service projects, strengthen their self-esteem, improve physical fitness and promote graduation to develop a solid foundation for career development.
MOMentum
MOMentum has formed a friendship as well as a partnership with H.E.L.P where together we have been able to send 60 children from the Irvington community to YMCA’s Linwood McDonald 200 + acre facility in Sussex County, implement an Around the World program, initiate various volunteer reading program, launch book and coat drives for the community, and build our own in-classroom library. With MOMentum’s help, struggling families have been able to benefit from the MOMentum scholarship fund as well.
Momentum is an organization that creates small groups of mothers who meet together monthly. The groups allow the members to connect and challenge each other to inspire personal growth and positive life change.
